NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of 14 regional NHS Boards in Scotland – it is the largest NHS organisation in Scotland and one of the largest in the UK. With an annual budget of £3.2billion, we are responsible for the provision and management of the whole range of health services for a population of 1.2 million and employ circa 38,000 staff.

We work alongside partnership organisations including Local Authorities and the voluntary sector and our purpose is to deliver effective and high quality health services, to act to improve the health of our population and to do everything we can to address the wider social determinants of health

Our geographical area covers the major city of Glasgow, large and small towns, villages and some rural areas. We have significant challenges ahead as we deliver the objectives set out in Better Health Better Care and we need to ensure that we have the right people for the right posts.

We host the largest group of adult acute hospitals in Scotland - offering many opportunities to ensure job satisfaction and career development. We provide a wide range of services from community-based care through to the full range of general hospital services. We enjoy close links with Glasgow's three universities and make a significant contribution to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level with research enjoying a high profile within the organisation. We provide excellent facilities for students and their tutors in the state of the art, Wolfson Medical School based at Glasgow University.

We're building new hospitals and redesigning the way we deliver patient services to provide modern health care to greatly improve the experiences of patients and staff working environments and to meet the changing health needs of our population.    Significant investment in acute hospital services means radical changes to Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s healthcare to create centres of excellence for surgical, medical and emergency care.  The new South Glasgow University Hospital will open mid 2015  and will be among the largest in the UK. A new a specialist children’s hospital also located on the Southern General Campus will open shortly thereafter.  The adult and children's hospital will be integrated within a single building albeit with separate entrances and building identities.

The Glasgow and Clyde region combines the energy and sophistication of a great international city with some of Scotland's most spectacular scenery within easy reach. Vibrant and modern Glasgow is Scotland's largest city with the largest suburban rail network outside London and a wealth of culture and leisure activities. With Loch Lomond just 40 minutes from the city Centre, and with the vast areas around it, it's rarely crowded. Add this to high quality housing, good schools, thorough transport links - and you can understand why people here enjoy a unique standard of living.
