WA Country Health Service is seeking highly motivated medical professionals for a wide range of roles within their hospitals:

  • Senior Medical Practitioners - Emergency Department
  • Senior Medical Practitioners – Emergency Department and Primary Health Care
  • District Medical Officers – procedural and non procedural*

The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is the largest country health system in Australia, providing health services across an area of 2.55 million square kilometres for a combined population of 454,000, almost one third of the Western Australian population.  Our services are predominantly dispersed along the coastal regions, extending inland into the rural and remote areas across to borders with the Northern Territory and South Australia.

The 7 Regional Health Networks provide a diverse range of services including emergency departments, mental health, obstetrics, surgical, medical and dialysis.  These networks operate in collaboration with a number of partners including Aboriginal health services, retrieval services and tertiary medical centres, providing additional opportunities and experiences for medical practitioners working in rural and remote areas.

Position profile:

Senior Medical Practitioner – Emergency Medicine:

The suitable candidate will demonstrate extensive relevant generalist and emergency medicine skills and knowledge and/or hold post graduate qualifications in Emergency Medicine. Appointment is based on skills and experience with a minimum of 12 years experience.  The successful candidate will be capable of independent practice.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing a high standard of medical care to patients. Apart from a clinical role, a Senior Medical Practitioner provides leadership, training, supervision and education for Doctors in Training (DiTs), in consultation with Specialists and the Regional Medical Director.

A demonstrated commitment to providing clinical leadership and governance, including safety and quality programs, and the ability to effectively communicate to a broad range of internal and external consumers is expected.
 

Senior Medical Practitioner – Emergency Medicine and Primary Health Care:

In addition to the above requirements the successful candidate will have extensive generalist and primary health care knowledge and skills, with a minimum requirement of 12 years experience in a hospital or general practice environment, and be capable of independent practice.

Previous experience in rural hospital setting, and an interest in remote and Aboriginal health, is highly desirable.
 

*District Medical Officer Procedural applicants – In addition to demonstrating significant emergency department experience with primary health care knowledge and skills, the applicant must also hold a formal post-graduate qualification in Obstetrics or Anaesthetics and be able to practice without clinical supervision. 

Registration requirements:

The suitable candidate will have previous experience in an Emergency Department within Australia or a recognised competent authority country (United Kingdom, Canada, United States, New Zealand and Ireland).

You must be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia, refer to the AHPRA website: www.medicalboard.gov.au and either a Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) or Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP).
