Alberta Health Services, Department of Addiction & Mental Health in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is inviting applications from psychiatrists with an interest in working with caregivers of youth seen in the Youth Community Support Program (YCSP) for this part-time 0.5 FTE position.
The YCSP is a partnership between Alberta Health Services and Boyle Street Community Services. It serves multi-problem, high-risk youth with severe emotion dysregulation, and their families/caregivers. Its transdisciplinary team includes child and adolescent psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, and youth and family community outreach workers. Intensive individual and family therapy, wrap around, and community outreach services are provided to the youth and their families/caregivers. DBT is the foundational treatment paradigm, and attachment- and trauma-informed individual and family therapy are also often indicated and integrated into treatment plans.
Many youth in YCSP have parents/caregivers with their own mental health issues, which are often exacerbated by the intensity and severity of their children’s issues. We are looking for a psychiatrist to provide psychiatric consultation and ongoing treatment as needed to these parents/caregivers, in collaboration with the YCSP transdisciplinary team. As well, the psychiatrist could participate in DBT-based programming for parents, which includes a DBT Skills Training group and a Parent Support Group.
This adult psychiatry service is co-located with YCSP youth and family therapy services.to facilitate caregivers to accept and receive psychiatric care, and to optimize opportunities for the adult psychiatrist and the YCSP team to collaborate on a whole-family treatment approach.
