Responsibilities/Duties:

Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone, invites applications for the role of Zone Section Chief, Community Primary Care. This is a new leadership role within the department of Family Medicine Edmonton Zone, and will have the potential to interact with many stakeholders within our zone providing care to the full range of patients seen in community, AHS clinics and acute care sites.

This 0.20 FTE position, governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, reports directly to the Zone Clinical Department Head for Family Medicine, with close linkages to the AZMD/ZMD, the physician executive leadership of local Primary Care Networks and the provincial medical director of AHS primary care.

Remuneration is in accordance with AHS contractor agreements.

The Section Chief Community Primary Care is a leadership role contributing guidance and advice for strategic planning, project development and quality care for patients in the continuum of care and during transitions of care. This medical-administrative leader will work with the medical leadership team within the Department of Family Medicine Edmonton Zone-Associate Zone Medical Director, Zone Clinical Department Head and Section Chiefs of Inpatient Care and Primary Care Obstetrics as well as the Primary Care Division of AHS linking with the Primary Care Network Leads.

This leader position is accountable for the development of enhanced communication with the physicians appointed in the department of Family Medicine within community setting or working in AHS clinics in non-acute care work, or supporting other specialty departments. The role will also be supportive to the Primary Care Division advocating for quality, patient safety and patient care in the community through collaboration with the Primary Care Networks.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution, analytics, strategic thinking/influence and a passion for quality and patient safety. S/He will possess significant experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by his/her peers.

Candidates must be College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) certified, be eligible to work in Canada and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physician and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should ideally have evidence of formal administrative education, training or experience.
