The University of Alberta, and the Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with Alberta Health Services is inviting applications for a General Adult Psychiatrist with an interest in a community focused practice. We presently have a position for a full time community based General Adult Psychiatrist.
The position will entail providing consultation services for clients in the Edmonton Adult Mental Health Clinic primarily at the 108 Street and Northgate locations. The psychiatrist would be participating in the post-discharge follow-up program and in the regular general adult clinic located in both locations. The post- discharge program is part of the policy related to care transition which requires patients discharged from acute care to be assessed by a psychiatrist and/or mental health therapist within 7 days of their discharge from hospital. In the regular general adult clinic, the psychiatrists will provide consultation services and follow-up for patients who have been referred by a Mental Health Therapist. There would also be the opportunity for the psychiatrist to work at our 24/7 Access clinic which opens in November 2018 and would be located at the Anderson Hall which is on the Royal Alexandra Hospital campus. It is a requirement for this position that the successful applicant participate in the community on-call program which will provide 24/7 psychiatric coverage for the 24/7 Access clinic.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in weekly team meetings and provide support to team clinicians as required including in the community. There will be opportunities to work in collaboration with other psychiatrists and inter-disciplinary team members. The successful candidate will be required to participate in on-call coverage for the proposed 24/7 community urgent care clinic.
It is also the expectation of this position that the successful applicant will participate in quality improvement initiatives within the program. Clinics are staffed by multi-disciplinary teams and the physician as part of the team will participate in clinical improvement initiatives as well as provide clinical leadership for members of the team.Qualifications:
Successful candidates will be expected to be actively involved in resident training, including seeking a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment within the Department of Psychiatry, which will be considered a separate process via the University of Alberta.
The successful candidates must have or be eligible for specialist licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Preferred candidates will have completed advanced training in General Adult Psychiatry or have a General Adult Psychiatry background, and must have specialist qualifications, such as FRCPC or equivalent.
Candidates with an interest in working as part of an interdisciplinary team, enthusiasm with teaching and experience in leadership roles are preferred.
