Alberta Health Services, in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications for the Northern Alberta Neonatal Program (NANP) Section Chief.
The NANP program offers integrated secondary, tertiary and quaternary newborn services to Northern and Central Alberta and is a referral centre for northern and western Canada. It provides comprehensive neonatal care in a regionalized, publicly funded system, with over 20,000 deliveries in the referral area and 3,000 admissions per year. You will be joining a team of 20 neonatologists, nurse practitioners, and physician clinical associates at five clinical sites who deliver the full range of Neonatology services, including general and cardiovascular surgery, and neonatal follow-up. The Neonatal Transport Program conducts approximately 500 transfers of babies per year. The Newborn Health program is part of the Stollery Children’s Hospital and Edmonton Zone Child Health Program, and is also integrated with Covenant Health.
The NANP is affiliated with the University of Alberta, and provides important training opportunities for residents and students which attracts national and international trainees interested in Royal College Neonatal Subspecialty Residency and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Training programs. The Newborn Health Program has divisional members who are part of the academic Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and are very active in clinical and basic science research programs. The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.
This position is responsible for, leadership, development, and improvement of the services and programs in Newborn Health.Qualifications:
The Zone Clinical Section Chief for Newborn Health is a Senior Medical Leadership role in the Edmonton Zone providing leadership support to the Zone Clinical Department Head and Associate Zone Medical Director, contributing expert guidance and advice to matters within the Department of Child Health and conducting quality improvement and rigorous performance management. Other major accountabilities include:
· Quality Management – ensure the ongoing monitoring of quality clinical / medical practice across sites and ensure effective processes are in place to encourage best practice and improve clinical outcomes;
· Academic Liaison – ensures effective support at the site level for teaching and research where appropriate;
· Resource Management – support recruitment of physicians and standardization of contracts;
· Performance Management – support the performance monitoring of medical staff;
It is anticipated that the Section Chief will continue to do approximately 0.4 FTE clinical work.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, a passion for quality and patient safety, and conflict resolution. S/he will be an inclusive and visionary leader with experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers. Preferably, the candidate should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
The successful applicant shall have or be eligible for certification in Pediatrics or Neonatology with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.Recruiter Contact:
