BASIC FUNCTION

Provides educational leadership and guidance at unit level to development knowledge and skills of nursing staff works in partnership with the nurse unit manager to improve patient outcomes.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Collaborates with nurse manager to meet the educational needs of staff.
  • Incorporates evidence-based practice and research findings into all educational offerings.
  • Develops and implements evidence based classes, seminars, courses. and other educational offerings that improve the knowledge base and/or skills of the nursing staff
  • Participates in departmental educational and staff development activities (i.e orientation, skill fair, competency reviews, preceptor training).
  • Contributes to departmental meetings and planning sessions.
  • Works closely with allied health staff when requested to assist with the initiation or introduction of new standards, procedures. or equipment.
  • Maintains individual educational/competency records for all staff in assigned areas.
  • Displays ability to prepare professional presentations, is innovative in teaching approach, engages students during classroom; small group, or individual teaching sessions.
  • Works with Preceptors in development of newly hired staff, transferred staff, nursing interns, and students.
  • Conducts clinical performance assessment of staff within area(s) of responsibility in collaboration with nurse manager and develops an outcome based educational plan..
  • Participates in education, training and development for self and supports others as applicable.
  • Supports the hospital and nursing mission, vision, values, and strategic goals and objectives_
  • Follows all hospital—related policies and procedures.
  • Participates in emergency and disaster procedures.
  • Performs other duties within the realm of his/her knowledge and ability as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Masters Degree Nursing (2 years experience)
  • Bachelor Degree Nursing (4 years experience)
  • Valid nursing license
