Responsibilities/Duties:

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Alberta Health Services (AHS) Calgary Zone is actively recruiting for a Maternal Fetal Medicine .3FTE Section Head. This is a leadership position in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and the Cumming School of Medicine. The new MFM Section Head will require strong demonstrated skills in collaboration, partnership and integration models. The MFM Section Head will be responsible with the clinicians for oversight of all aspects of this program. There is an expectation by the Department that the MFM Section Head will participate in departmental executive administrative duties that include: Executive Committee, Quality Assuarance & Audit, as well as any other administrative committees as deemed appropriate by the Deaprtment Head.

Maternal Fetal Medicine is an integrated outpatient and inpatient consultative practice. The program is offered to the Calgary Zone and approved catchment area. The section is clinically active in prenatal screening and diagnosis, ultrasound assessment, and assessment and ongoing care of complicated pregnancies in collaboration with prenatal genetics, OBIM, and diabetes in pregnancy in a collaborative model with ultrasound. The Department has an approved fellowship program. The MFM Section has created a balanced clinical care and imaging service, with educational and research activity in both the public and private healthcare funding streams. An outstanding service model has also been created.

The successful candidate will be a physician with subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine Training, and an appropriate level of experience in this field. Eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta is required. Candidates must have their FRCSC in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine. The successful candidate will be required to obtain a clinical academic appointment with the Cummings School of Medicine University of Calgary.

Alberta Health Services, Calgary Zone serves a population of ~1.2 million people. Calgary is a vibrant city close to Banff and the Rocky Mountains. The Zone includes presently 5 urban hospitals, (Foothills Medial Centre, Rockyview Hospital, Peter Lougheed Centre, South Health Campus and Alberta Children’s Hospital) comprehensive health centres and a variety of community and continuing care facilities.

Qualifications:

FRCSC and subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine.

5-10 years MFM experience in an Academic Health Centre Role

Demonstrated Leadership roles

Demonstrated roles in Education and Research

AHS privileges

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta

Must read, write & speak English

Compensation:

$71,469 per annum

There is an agreement in place for specialist on call stipend for MFM call service will apply for clinical work dependent on other MFM contracts i.e. Clinical ARP, EFW contract etc.

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.

Continuing Medical Education reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible Practitioner receives a $2,656.00 annual allotment which can be carried forward for three years.
