Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

This is an exciting, full time new post as a Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Nurse Specialist within York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be working as part of a multi-professional, highly regarded and supportive team based at York and Scarborough.

Gastro intestinal experience is essential, either medical or surgical, but applicants are not expected to have in depth knowledge of IBD as training will be provided.

It is important that applicants have excellent transferable skills including exceptional communication skills and the capability of working autonomously.
After training you will be expected to; make clinical assessments, decisions about patient care and after completion of non-medical prescribing course, the prescribing of medications within your sphere of competence.

Applicants should have a genuine interest in IBD and be able to demonstrate this along with a good understanding of the Nurse Specialist role. The post holder will be required to undertake academic study including an IBD module and non-medical prescribing training.

Participation in monthly multi-disciplinary team meetings, as well as a contribution to the wider IBD service development and involvement in the local and national IBD agenda, will be expected.

After training, and with continued support, the post holder will; undertake nurse led clinics, undertaking clinical assessment, management planning with the patient and evaluation of patient care. You will offer telephone advice and support to patients in between appointments and coordinate their care between primary and secondary care settings.

In addition you will be involved in the management of patients receiving long term drug treatments and participate in monthly multi-disciplinary team meetings as well as contribute to the wider IBD service development and involvement in the local and national IBD agenda.
