Located in South Brisbane, the 359-bed hospital features more than 80,000 square meters of facilities spread across 12 levels.   As Queensland's single specialist paediatric facility, Children's Health Queensland's (CHQ) at the QCH is the hub of a dedicated network of paediatric services available at other Brisbane and Queensland hospitals. Expanding on CHQ's state-wide remit, the QCH also supports regional hospitals through telemedicine and outreach services. This means children and young people can access the services they need as close to home as possible.   The hospital precinct includes the Centre for Children's Health Research, the Children's Hospital Foundation, Ronald McDonald House South Brisbane (opened in 2016) and a new Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Service building.   Your Opportunity: The Registered Nurse provides direct clinical care supporting the functioning of various wards and departments through the application of best practice.   Your Role and Responsibilities The role of the scrub/scout in the cardiac theatres is to assist and organise the daily running of the cardiac surgeries and ECMO services. To plan ahead for specialist cardiac cases and work across Mater NICU/Special care, RBWH NICU/Special care and PICU for ECMO and chest closures. 
  • Responsible for the provision of nursing care that meets the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Competency Standards, Australian College of Operating Room Nurses (ACORN) Standards and other professional practice standards relevant to position.
  • Provide effective and efficient clinical care in the perioperative specialty and work in collaboration with the Perioperative Leadership Team to ensure the maintenance of safe standards in patient care
  • Participate in quality improvement and evidence-based practice activities to ensure the provision of quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Assess, plan, organise, evaluate and deliver nursing care to a high standard in order to achieve clinical goals for individual clients in accordance with professional standards, district policies / nursing standards, legal and ethical requirements. 
  • Promote clinical and professional standards through the application of relevant legislation and frameworks which support best practice, contribute to service improvement and minimise risk. 
  • Support and promote a learning and research culture and participate in appropriate education and development activities. 
  • Maintain a family centred focus and consumer participation in care planning. 
  • Utilise communication processes and systems which enhance patient care delivery and unit functioning.
