CONSULTANT PHYSICIANS IN ACUTE MEDICINE

This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly forming team of Acute Physicians, as we double our investment in Consultant-led services in this area.

Your role as a Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine is dedicated to ensuring effective and high quality acute care, an essential part in contributing to our plans to transform Medway.
The applicant must have CCT in General Medicine or be within 6 months of obtaining it, with a good experience in acute medicine. We offer an attractive package with a programmed activity session each week for professional development in your specialty interest. Your sessions will be fully supported by the clinical lead of your specialty.
As a Consultant Physician you will be a clinical leader responsible for shaping service developments, improving quality and safety and directly managing junior doctors within the wider multi-disciplinary team. With a CCST/CCT in Acute / General Medicine and a good ability to make decisions at consultant level, you will demonstrate commitment to high quality service delivery, whilst remaining sympathetic to the understanding of patients and staff needs.
This is a unique opportunity to join our new and expanding Acute Medical division.
The Acute Medical Department has three important components. The Acute Admissions Ward (AAW), which consist of 50 beds (25 females and 25 male beds), Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC) and the GP Assessment area:
In total there will be twelve Consultant Physicians in Acute Medicine who will work on: shop floor weekdays from 08:00 until 22:00; PTWR, look after the acute medical patients in Short Stay; run the Emergency Ambulatory Care service 7 days a week. In addition you will have other acute medicine commitments such as hot clinics and facilitated discharge ambulatory care clinics.
Consultant acute physician will be available in ambulatory care until 20.00 in weekends 1:8.
As well as supporting acute medical take and admissions, you will develop the role of the acute medical consultant in avoiding acute admissions in the GP assessment area and Ambulatory care unit with appropriate assistance from our large number of junior medical staff and wider multi-disciplinary team.
The elderly care clinicians provide a frailty service throughout the week and weekend They accept other frail elderly as appropriate
