The successful candidate will join a multi-professional team based at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre, Blackpool Victoria Hospital and be employed by the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Blackpool Victoria Hospital serves a resident population of approximately 333,000. There are large seasonal fluctuations in population with Blackpool and surrounding areas of the Fylde coast attracting up to 16 million visitors a year. The Victoria Hospital is a District General Hospital with 912 beds and serves the three surrounding boroughs of Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde. In addition, there are 92 beds for care of the elderly at Clifton Hospital.
The hospital has a consultant staff numbering over one hundred and ten encompassing all major medical and surgical specialties. In addition there are visiting consultants in the specialties of nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, and radiotherapy. The hospital provides a regional service in Haemato-Oncology.
The large Radiology Department has state of the art Spiral CT and MR scanners. There are facilities for Nuclear Radiology in addition to plain radiography and Ultrasound. The department has a film-free digital imaging service.
Blackpool Victoria Hospital is one of four Regional Centres for Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiology. The Lancashire Cardiac Centre, comprises a £50m state of the art facility which incorporates 4 catheter laboratories, currently 4 (but with a possibility of commissioning a 5th) operating rooms and 20 critical care beds, together with associated ward beds and a dedicated educational and research facility. This was commissioned in the summer of 2006.
