About the role

The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care in collaboration with individual clients and the multidisciplinary health care team to achieve goals and health outcomes.  This position is appointed to the Adult Mental Health Unit and may be required to work from a number of District Mental Health Service sites, or in a comparable mental health position.

About You

To be successful in this role you must be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Clinical knowledge in the area of Mental Health in an acute Adult inpatient setting.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to completing formal Mental Health Nursing qualifications.
  • Consistently and enthusiastically delivers high levels of patient service to exceed patients' expectations.
  • Supports and respects team members, communicating effectively and demonstrating a commitment to the team.
  • Demonstrates strong self-management skills, a commitment to nursing and flexibility to adapt to unexpected changes.
  • Knowledge of and a demonstrated commitment to quality processes and evidence based practices, identifying areas for improvement and contributing to these improvements
  • Demonstrates honesty, integrity and respect for all patients, carers and staff.

 About the Adult Mental Health Unit (AMHU)

The Adult Mental Health Unit (AMHU) is situated within the Ipswich Hospital.  It provides multidisciplinary inpatient care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through specialist assessment, clinical interventions and treatment services.

There is focus on recovery and rehabilitation within a safe, therapeutic and consumer friendly environment. This service can be accessed by adults between 18 and 64 years who are experiencing acute episodes of mental illness and who cannot be adequately supported in the community environment.

The AMHU is dedicated to providing all consumers with continuity of care during their recovery and assists with building relationships in the community to assist with the person's continuing recovery.

Vaccination Preventable Disease
This role is designated as ‘Vaccination Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role'. You must be able to provide evidence that you either:

  •  have been vaccinated against the VPD's listed in the role description; or
  • you are not susceptible to the VPD's listed in the role description.
