We are seeking to recruit a Consultant in Anaesthetics with an interest in Intensive Care Medicine to work at Scarborough Hospital.
York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides acute hospital services for approximately 800,000 people living in and around York, North Yorkshire, North East Yorkshire and Ryedale – an area covering 3,400 square miles. We manage ten hospital sites, 1,127 beds (including day case beds) and have a workforce of over 8,000 staff working across our hospitals and in the community. Our main sites are in York and Scarborough Hospital both of which have an Accident and Emergency department and provides acute medical and surgical services, including trauma and intensive care services to the local population and visitors.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and rapidly evolving team in Critical Care in Scarborough.
The Critical Care Department is part of the Directorate for Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care. Surgical services are located principally at two Acute Hospitals, York and Scarborough and some Elective Surgery is also located in Bridlington Hospital. The Anesthetic department is an integrated directorate,
we have a Lead Clinician for Intensive Care, along with Clinical Leads for Day Surgery, Acute Pain, Chronic Pain, Obstetrics, Paediatrics and CPX testing as well as a number of Anaesthetists who have links with the various specialties.
There are a wide range of surgical specialities including, major colorectal and lower gastrointestinal surgery, trauma and orthopaedics, maxillofacial surgery. There is also a Obstetric unit with over 1500 deliveries per annum.
At Scarborough Hospital there is an Intensive Care Unit with 6 staffed level three beds with 8 physical bed spaces, and 5 Operating Theatres situated in the main theatre suite at Scarborough and 3 theatre’s in Bridlington. In addition there are two Post-Anaesthetic Care Units (PACUs). Surgical services are supported by the PACU (Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit), Anaesthetic and Emergency Theatre Teams.
