Paediatric Emergency Department

Excellent opportunity for SHO or Registrars in Paediatrics Emergency Medicine; we aim to support Non-Training Middle grade Doctors who wish to develop their careers and skills within Emergency medicine

This post offers:

  • MScs:Master’s Degree in Emergency Medicine; MSc Resuscitation and Emergencies (QMUL Emergency Medicine); MSc Trauma (QMUL Trauma Surgery),
  • Study leave allowance and expenses for Emergency Medicine Courses;
  • Bi weekly teaching built into the rota for all doctors;
  • 3 months of fully furnished accommodation (for those relocating from>150 mile radius);
  • Management time built in the rota;
  • Named Educational and Clinical supervisor;

We are able to offer the following rotational posts:

  • 3 months Paediatric ED followed by 3 months General Paediatrics
  • 6 months Paediatric ED
  • 3 months Paediatric ED followed by 3 months Adult ED

Selected courses offered by the trust include:

  • APLS;
  • Level 1 Core Emergency Ultrasound;

In return we are looking for candidates who have:

  • At least 18 months in an Emergency Department/Paediatric Medicine post FY2 equivalent;
  • Full license to practice with the GMC;


  • MRCPCH or equivalent;
  • In date ALS/ATLS/APLS courses;
  • Overseas applications are welcomed;

Successful Candidates will be expected to work at both Queens and the King Georges

These post consists of on average 48 hours per week and attract a 1a banding (50%). We offer 27 days of annual leave + bank holidays.

The training we provide includes shop floor management of trauma, medical, surgical, psychiatry and Paediatric cases. All Training will be provided by Emergency Medicine Consultant, Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant

BHRUT Emergency Department sees approximately 230 000 new patients across 2 sites (Queens and King George hospitals) annually. Of these, approximately 50 000 are paediatric patients who are seen in the paediatric ED and 11 000 resuscitations seen in the Resus Unit. The remaining patients are seen in the Majors area or the E-UCC.
