Located in St. Albert, Alberta the Sturgeon Community Hospital is a 169 bed hospital offering a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialty services within cardiology, medicine, obstetrics, surgery, gastroenterology, critical care, and emergency medicine.
Our ICU consists of 8 beds serving primarily medical and surgical patients. Specialized services including renal replacement therapy, plasmapheresis, inhaled epoprostenol, and proning are available in our unit. We are a closed unit served by 4 fellowship trained intensivists. There is full time coverage by a team of critical care trained Nurse Practitioners. Daily rounding is supported by a full multi-disciplinary team including a dedicated pharmacist, social worker, and rehabilitation support.
We are an active member of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alberta routinely participating in departmental research and other administrative activities. The successful candidate will be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with an MD, FRCPC or FRCSC, possess a specialist certificate or equivalent in Critical Care Medicine, and be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
We are particularly interested in those with superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to function well within small teams. A demonstrated interest and commitment to the practice of community intensive care medicine is essential. Desirable skill sets include experience and/or additional training in point of care ultrasound, quality Improvement, or research within a community setting.
The successful candidate will be a clinical academic colleague within the academic Department of Critical Care Medicine.
Remuneration for ICU work will be through a clinical alternate relationship plan (ARP) funding model. At the present time, eight weeks of ICU service per year will be expected with the possibility of increased service time as clinical needs dictate. Clinical service in base specialty is negotiable and will consist of fee for service billings.
