Responsibilities/Duties:

Provide medical care in primary care, emergency department coverage, acute care and extended care services.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Reside in and have as his/her primary residence, Manning
• Establish and maintain a full time community based practice within the community
• Provide hospital and call support as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Emergency Department and other call schedules as required
• Contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities; interest in leadership
• Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities as assigned

The successful candidate is recruited for the community of Manning

The successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining the existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

About Manning - Manning, one of the newest towns in the north, was named after a former Premier of Alberta, Ernest Manning. The picturesque town sprung up after the Second World War on the banks of the Notikewin River, between two small hamlets, North Star to the south, and Notikewin to the north. Using smart boards and video conferencing is an everyday part of our students lives. There are excellent sports programs and character building programs both in class and extracurricular activities. Under the Peace River School Division, Manning Elementary School offers Kindergarten through grade 6. Paul Rowe Junior/Senior High School offers grades 7 through 12. Community Health Profile - The Manning Community Health Centre is where new technology and good old fashioned rural values combine for the delivery of top-quality health care. Opened in 2003, the community is proud to have a beautiful modern facility to support the well being of our community members. With a staff of 120, all departments work together for the client's wellness - 24 hour emergency care, 10 acute beds, 16 continuing care beds, diabetes education, home care, mental health, social work, nutrition, occupational therapy palliative care, physiotherapy, recreational therapy, telehealth and volunteer services.

The Manning Medical Clinic is located next to the health centre for convenience of physicians and clients. The Del Air Lodge located along the Notikewin River offers additional residential comprehensive services for seniors.

Our residents exhibit the customary warm and friendly demeanor one expects in a rural area. This close knit community is very welcoming and wishes success for all. Qualifications:

  • Must have current Emergency Room Experience (in a rural setting)
  • Must have current rural experience
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (desired)
  • CCFP (desired)

Candidate must have independent Emergency Room & Acute Care Hospital Experience in Rural setting within the past 1-2 years

Preference will be given to applicants who do not require or have completed the CPSA Preliminary Clinical Assessment

Compensation:

Fee for Service

On Call Stipend - Physicians are remunerated for being on call in the Emergency Room.

Alberta Medical Association (AMA) Incentives - AMA Benefits are currently under review and are subject to change from what is listed below:

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside in this community of $34,256.94 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.)

The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 30.72% for insured services provided in this community.

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
