An exciting opportunity has arisen at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) Neonatal unit, we are looking to recruit a registered nurse or midwife with a post-registration qualification in neonatal nursing to join our team as a sister. The Neonatal unit is currently in the process of undergoing development and expanding its services.
We will consider applications from senior band 5 applicants with neonatal experience, however, they will need to be able to complete all band 6 competencies within a 6 month period to be banded at a band 6 level.
We offer a specialist service to a population across the South Coast region, providing intensive, high and special care, as well as a community outreach team. We host SONeT, the regional transfer service, ensuring that families receive care in the most appropriate unit, closest to their home. There is an opportunity to work with the transport service, which will provide you with a wide range of varied experiences. Our patients here in Southampton have access to a range of speciality teams including neonatal surgery and cardiac services. Our tertiary centre supports over 6000 births per annum and is host to the high-risk obstetric and fetal medicine service.

This is reflected in the receipt of the ‘Improving Care Award’ from Bliss to our unit in 2016. We are funded to achieve BAPM staffing recommendations by 2020; you could be a part of our staffing plan enabling us to achieve this.
We will offer you continued education, opportunities in care covering the full ITU spectrum of services and the chance to work with a supportive and dedicated team. Here at UHS, we recognise the significant contribution your skills and expertise make. In light of this we are offering a one off payment of £4000 (pro rata) to new external applicants with active NMC pins and a relevant post-registration neonatal nursing qualification appointed within our neonatal services, to show our commitment to you. In exchange, you will be committed to remaining with your allocated ward area for a minimum of 12 months.

Getting to Work
Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes. This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited. UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible. UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
