This position is based at a regional referral hospital in NSW. It has 270 beds and serves a population of over 300,000. It is the regional trauma centre for western NSW and it’s ED is fully staffed by FACEMs. As a teaching hospital, it works closely with both the University of Sydney and Charles Sturt University. The Intensive Care Unit is the referral unit for the Local Health District. It is a Level 5 Unit and is staffed accordingly. There are a comprehensive range of specialist services including almost all medical and surgical services, with the exception of spinal, burns, cardiothoracic and neurosurgical. Of note, there are services such as interventional cardiology, an endovascular suite, and excellent on-site digital radiology, including a 3T MRI and 2 LINACs for radiation oncology. This Hospital also has acute specialists in cardiology, renal, gastroenterology, respiratory medicine, haematology, neurology, ophthalmology and specialists in medical and radiation oncology. There are also local specialists in palliative care, nuclear medicine and dermatology.
The hospital is looking for an experienced O&G Consultant to join the Women’s Unit. The Women’s Unit performs well over eight hundred Obstetric and Gynaecological procedures on an annual basis many of which are very high level surgically complex operations (RANZCOG 4,5 & 6/6). It has a level 5 Maternity Unit, 12 Ward beds, Level 2 Special Care Nursery, Domiciliary Service and Lactation Day Stay facilities. The hospital is equipped to manage newborns from 32 weeks gestation, and has an Adult Intensive Care facility. Antenatal and Gynaecology clinics are conducted in the hospital as well as outreach clinics in nearby facilities.
Medical care in the maternity and gynecology areas are provided by six Specialist Obstetricians, six Registrars and three House Officers.
In addition, a local General Practitioner with obstetric qualifications supports the unit.
