An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join the team on CHOC (Combined Haematology Oncology Center at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).
The successful applicant will join a highly skilled specialist team that offer treatments including SACT (Systemic Anti Cancer Therapies) and supportive therapies to Oncology and Haematology patients. CHOC is the regional cancer center and provides specialist care for many Oncology and Haematology patients. Procedures such as Apheresis, bone marrow biopsies and Venesections take place on the unit as well as NG insertions, CVAD insertion and IT chemotherapy administration. CHOC supports patients by administering therapies within the hospital setting as well as providing an outreach service to treat patients closer to home.
This service takes place at two sites, Lymington hospital and Countess Mountbatten Hospice, with scope to develop this service further. You will become a highly skilled professional with multiple opportunities for career development from ANP, CNS and managerial roles. You will have the opportunity to rotate around cancer care to understand the nursing requirements for oncology and haematology patients. The unit comprises At full capacity the unit will see over 100 patients a day. The unit comprises of 22 treating spaces 3 side rooms, an Apheresis bay of 4 beds and a TYA bay of 4 chairs. Due to the current pandemic CHOC is located at the Spire Hospital across the road from UHS. Our service operates 8am-8pm Mon-Fri, 8am-4pm Saturday and a blood taking service on Sunday 8am-4pm.
You will be a pro-active team player wishing to pursue and develop a career in Haematology and Oncology. You would ideally have some experience of working within oncology and delivery of SACT, however this is not essential and full training will be provided. We are seeking to maintain and expand CHOC staff as we move to an exciting new future. Getting to Work
Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes. This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited. UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible. UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
