Provide physician services in primary care, emergency department, acute care and extended care services.

The successful candidate is recruited for the community of High Prairie.

The successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or by opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Reside in and have as his/her primary residence in the community of High Prairie.
  • Establish and maintain a full time community based practice within the community.
  • Provide call support as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Emergency Department and other call schedules as required.
  • Contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities; interest in leadership.
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities as assigned.

About the Community of High Prairie:

The Town of High Prairie is a thriving community of about 3000 people who enjoy the advantage of living in a modern urban community surrounded by golden prairie, lush forests and numerous lakes. Situated just 15 minutes from the western shores of Lesser Slave Lake, it has a thriving tourism industry, particularly in the warmer summer months. Boating, beaches, fishing, quadding and the parks are just some of the summer recreation choices available. Winter activities include hockey, curling, ice fishing, snowmobiling and downhill skiing. The Museum and Library, as well as the local College encourage all to drop in.

Nearby Winagami Lake Provincial Park & Kimiwan Lake are a birdwatcher’s paradise, while the Jack Pine Natural Area is a wildland park and remnant of the last glacial age, and Hilliard’s Bay Provincial Park boasts Alberta’s largest inland lake. This Agricultural, Forestry and Oil & Gas based community has a full complement of over 200 retail goods and service based businesses. High quality recreational facilities include an Aquatic Center, 2 indoor hockey arenas, 4 sheet curling rink, 9-hole golf course, tennis courts, agri-plex, rodeo grounds, gun range, Jaycee Ball Park and private fitness centers. There are walking trails throughout the area and many service groups encourage volunteers to participate in all types of activities. The town also has a 3944 foot Municipal Airport, accommodating regional air travelers, private aircraft and Med-Evac transports. There is also a local FM radio station, newspaper, taxi services and passenger bus service to larger centers.

Candidate must have independent Emergency Room & Acute Care Hospital Experience in Rural setting within the past 1-2 years.

Preference will be given to applicants who do not require, or have completed, the CPSA Practice Readiness Assessment (PRA-AB).

Fee for Service.

On Call Stipend – Physicians are remunerated for being on call.
