The Role

An opportunity has become available for an Enrolled Nurse (Electroconvulsive Therapy and Neurostimulation Team) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to over 550,000 people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will take responsibility for

  • Adhering to National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and work within Queensland Health Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) guidelines to ensure standards of patient care are met and legal procedures are followed correctly
  • Attending Inpatient Mental Health Units to check relevant paperwork and nursing checklists have been completed and are in the correct order for consumers to commence their ECT treatment
  • Liaising with families, careers and other departments (including theatre, anesthetics, mental health teams and community)
  • Welcoming consumers and nursing staff from the inpatient units, providing reassurance and support to the consumer prior to having ECT treatment

Requirements for the role

  • Demonstrated experience as an Enrolled Nurse or at minimum, 6 months graduate transition post registration
  • Must hold a Board (NMBA) approved qualification in medication administration. Completion of 519HLTEN A,B or C or 007HLTEN will be highly regarded (Evidenced by transcript)
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • This position requires effective computer skills to use clinical information systems and other applications relevant to role

Salary information

  • Permanent part time (36 hrs p.f.)
  • Base salary ranging from $31.46 - $33.39 per hour
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading

About the Electroconvulsive Therapy and Neurostimulation Team

The Electroconvulsive Therapy and Neurostimulation team is continuously evolving. Working within this team, the Enrolled Nurse (EN) will have opportunity to be trained in other neurostimulation treatments including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation. Opportunity for further education and reflection is encouraged. Treatment outcomes are valued and achieved by self rating and clinician rated assessments. The EN will be trained to carry out these assessments.

The unit provides clinical assessment and facilitation within a specific area supporting the delivery of Electroconvulsive Therapy for the Gold Coast Mental Health and Specialist Services. Our team works within a framework of best practice and provides evidence based care and education and leadership within this specialist field.
