The Clinical Nurse (CN) works collaboratively with the Clinical Nurse Consultant and Nurse Unit Manager in the delivery, management and development of the clinical services in the Thursday Island Haemodialysis and Chemotherapy Unit. The CN provides clinical expertise within the Haemodialysis and supervised chemotherapy setting to ensure the provision of best practice, and quality patient care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing teaching and support to nursing staff and patients to enhance skill acquisition and competence. The successful applicant may be required to complete training in the appropriate components of the Antineoplastic Drug Administration Course (ADAC).

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Advanced clinical knowledge and skills in renal nursing practice.

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the care of renal patients from:
    • Chronic Kidney Disease pre dialysis.

    • Acute and chronic haemodialysis.

    • Pre-transplant care and monitoring with the support of CHHHS transplant coordinator.

  • Renal access monitoring.

Requirements for the role:

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration/endorsement with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to commencement of clinical duties. Current registration with the Australian Health Practice Registration Authority (APHRA) as a registered nurse and current practising certificate is mandatory.

  • Post graduate qualification in Nursing or working towards is highly desirable

  • At least 3 years recent experience in Haemodialysis.
