About your opportunity
The Clinical Nurse Consultant Co-responder in the Mental Health Service Group works alongside the Queensland Police Service MHIC to provide a proactive response to first responders (QAS/QPS) to achieve the following objectives:

  • Develop a dedicated, joint secondary response team with specialised police and mental health clinician knowledge to reduce the risk of behavioural escalation in the community.
  • Provide timelier mental health assessments and early intervention in the community, and to provide enhanced access to information and expertise on mental health.
  • Ensure appropriate referral and follow up for people involved in police call outs to mental health crisis.
  • Provide on-site early intervention and assessment to reduce the number of Emergency Examination Authority's, (Public Health Act 2005) reduce the number of QAS and QPS transports to the Emergency Department with expected significant cost savings to QPS, QAS, MHS and EDs.
  • Provide an intervention in the community that will release first responders to be able to attend to other police/ambulance jobs.
  • Provide a least restrictive, recovery focused alternative for consumers who do not have a mental illness but who are in mental health distress/crisis or at risk due to other factors.
  • Solidify the relationship and understanding between Mental Health Service Group and emergency services.
  • Complete annual evaluations of the effectiveness and efficiency of the co-responder in managing and resolving mental health crises, including efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Generous remuneration comprising salary range of $4449.80 to $4831.00 p.f. (Nurse Grade 7), 17.5% leave loading, 12.75 % employer contribution to superannuation.
