General Medicine, often also referred to as Internal Medicine in non-commonwealth countries, is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and (nonsurgical) treatment of diseases of the internal organs usually in adult patients.
General Medicine Physicians are especially skilled in the management of patients who have undifferentiated or multi-system disease processes.
Although General Physicians may act as primary care physicians, they are not "family physicians," "family practitioners," or "general practitioners," whose training is not solely concentrated on adults and may include surgery, obstetrics, and paediatrics.
Most general physicians develop a special area of interest in one of the areas listed below. Whilst they maintain a broad general medical knowledge they often tend to concentrate more on one area in which they have even further expertise.
