About the Role
The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is accountable at an advanced practice level for leading and coordinating the Cardiothoracic Unit to achieve best practice standards for clinical practice, patient centred care within a Healthcare team and is responsible for the provision of effective and efficient human, material and financial resource management.
Ward 3C is a surgical specialty for Cardiothoracic Surgery. The unit caters for tertiary referrals from Southern and Western Queensland, Northern New South Wales and its surrounding areas in cardiothoracic surgery. It receives elective, urgent and emergency referrals.
Ward 3C is a funded 28 bed Cardiothoracic Unit, with four funded cardiology beds. The unit also caters for trauma patients requiring monitoring for 24 – 48 hours post sternal fractures. Ward 3C is located on the 3rd floor of Building one via the orange lifts at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
The Transthoracic Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR and also called TAVI) programme commenced in January of 2016 and has since successfully established a comprehensive service in the treatment of aortic stenosis. Initial referral of patients for TAVR are reviewed in a dedicated clinic with consultations by a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Interventional Cardiologist and TAVR Clinical Nurse Consultant. With a Heart Team approach to patient care, TAVR procedures are performed in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (CCL) and Vascular Hybrid Operating Theatre. Patient outcomes are maximised by utilising the expertise of experienced Interventional Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic Surgeons, specialist nurses, cardiac scientists, radiographers and clinical support staff.
